RARITAN, NJ - After meeting with the Historic and Cultural Committee, Mayor Nicolas J. Carra proposed minor amendments to the committee’s ordinance. According to the ordinance, a council person must be a voting member, and the committee should consist of seven members. Carra said a voting council member isn't in practice and hasn't been in practice since the committee was first established. "So I've asked that we remove that and make that full-residential, or actually, that allows for nonresidents as well, but a volunteer voting member," he said.
Carra also said there's been a lot of interest in the committee, so he's asking to increase the number of committee members from seven to nine. A public hearing on the ordinance will be held Feb. 6.
